Essentials for Taking Ready Measurements
- A well-fitted suit from your wardrobe
- A tailor measuring tape (Non Industrial Metalย Tape), a pen and a paper
- A flat surface to lay out the suit
- A phone to capture a table top picture
- A companion to help hold the tape and note down the measurements
Tips for Success
- Lay your suit on a flat, smooth surface for accurate measurements
- Write down each measurement promptly to stay organized
- Make sure the suit is wrinkle-free and properly aligned before starting
Follow these steps for a perfect fitted suit
Coat Length
To measure a coat length, lay it flat with the back facing up. Measure from the base of the collar seam to the bottom hem for the total length.

Chest/Bust
To measure the chest width, lay the jacket flat with buttons fastened and measure across from underarm seam to seam. Double this for the full chest measurement.

Belly/Waist
Lay the jacket flat, fasten the buttons, and measure across the narrowest part of the waist. Double this for the full waist circumference.

Coat Hip
Measure across the widest part near the bottom, keeping the tape level. Double this for the full hip circumference.

Sleeve Length
Measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve cuff.

Shoulder Width
Lay it flat with the back up and measure straight across from one shoulder seam to the other. This ensures a comfortable fit across the shoulders.

Pant Waist
Measure across the narrowest part, usually below the chest, and double the measurement for the full waist circumference.

Pant Length
To measure the pant length, lay the pants flat and measure from the top of the waistband to the bottom hem along the outer leg.

Thigh
To measure the thigh width, lay the pants flat and measure across the widest part below the crotch. Double the measurement for the full thigh circumference.

Bottom Opening
Measure across the hem of the pant leg. Double this measurement for the full opening circumference.

Inseam
Measure from the crotch seam along the inner leg to the bottom hem.

Pant Hip
To measure the hip width of pants, lay them flat and measure across the widest part below the waistband. Double the measurement for the full hip circumference.
